Valmorel Road

IMPORTANT! When you are on the N90 heading towards Valmorel, ignore the signs and follow exit 38 which goes through Aigueblanche; This way you will be sure to take the most comfortable route, and to be able to do your shopping in peace in Aigueblanche before going up.

The first thing to do is go to the La Croissantine bakery. We order fresh bread and croissants, which are delivered to our apartment door every morning. Essential.

Take advantage of the Valmorel resort's organization, which is always interesting:

  • Visit the Valmorel.com website

  • Install the Valmorel mobile app, very handy for information on the slopes and activities.

  • Go to the Tourist Office and ask for the week's activity program.

Groceries

There are mini-markets and very good shops selling local products in Valmorel...

But the most practical and economical way is to do most of the week's shopping before the climb to Valmorel at the Super U in Aigueblanche.

The tracks

To get back up, take the Lanchettes chairlift; it is often empty when there are crowds elsewhere.

For those who love the thrill of off-piste skiing and powder (in complete safety!), head first to the freeride (snowcross) areas. The Riondet Freeride area, in particular, is fantastic!

Don't miss the "Lauzière" lift slopes on the St François Longchamps side.

Our favorite run? Lanchettes when there is plenty of snow, although not easy for children with the bumps and powder.

For the little ones, follow the "Pirates" routes or consider the Combelouvière side, which is easier and quieter.

Restaurants on the slopes

Our favorite? La Vache Orange , at the top of Lanchettes.

We also love the sails of Nants at the top of Planchamp.

Alternatively, if you have children, after the afternoon ESF lessons we like to have a few drinks at the Chalet du Mottet while the children continue to play in the snow... From there, it is very easy to return to the chalet via the Cascade piste, on foot or on skis, even in the dark!

Evening restaurant

Don't miss our "discovery": Oxygen

The prices are relatively low for such superb quality. A true culinary discovery in a very friendly setting.

Otherwise, there's something for everyone on Rue du Bourg, from chic to family-friendly...

We like to have a crepe with the children at La Flambée, Le petit Prince, La Table du Berger, and Jimbo Lolo for good cocktails in the evening.

And from time to time, get some good pizzas delivered from Casa Pizz.

Rentals

We use Go Sport (we get a discount from our manager) and we've always been satisfied, but other stores are probably just as good...

SPA

In the same group of chalets, 40m away, is the tourist residence "la Grange aux Fées" which offers a SPA and beauty treatments.

See prices on Spa Ô des Cimes.

Another alternative for the SPA is the new Oxygène hotel which we have not yet tested, or the SPA on rue du Bourg.

In Bulk

  • Try Snake-gliding with the ESF after the slopes close

  • Igloo building for children with the ESF (French Ski School) on Mondays and Fridays

  • A dogsled ride

  • Spa at La Grange aux Fées or at the Hôtel Oxygène

  • Orange Cow Yoga

  • Cross-country skiing starting from Doucy

  • Plenty of other activities organised by the ESF or the Tourist Office.
