Having ourselves rented apartments in resorts for a long time, we often ask ourselves the same practical questions about the actual accommodation conditions, the location in the resort, the proximity to the slopes, the ESF ski school, etc.
We try to answer that question here in a comprehensive and honest way.
Where is the chalet located in the resort?
The Grange aux Fées residence is located at the foot of the Lanchettes ski lift and 400 meters from the village, a short 4-minute walk. (2 on the map )
At 300 meters, the path passes in front of the toboggan run, lit up at night and very popular with children.
We then arrive in the pedestrian street (rue du Bourg) where the Planchamp cable car departures, shops and restaurants are located.
At the end of Rue du Bourg is the departure point for the Télébourg pedestrian cable car, which leads to the other hamlets of Valmorel (Crève-coeur and Mottet).
How to get to the nursery and the ESF departure point?
Logistics is very important when skiing!
ESF meetings take place in Mottet, in the hamlet of Mottet, the highest (and a little out of the way).
It can be accessed:
On skis, by taking Lanchettes or Planchamp and making a descent to reach Mottet.
(!) You can't take the Lanchettes chairlift there in the morning, you'd arrive 5 minutes late...
On foot, walking along the Cascade trail
The easiest way, especially for little ones, is to get there by the free shuttle which leaves opposite the apartment, and which has been specially designed for the Grange aux Fées-ESF connection.
Of course, everything can also be done on foot.
ATTENTION! The ESF changes its schedules during school terms, remember to check the lesson and shuttle times!
For the return, it is either via the slopes from the ESF via the Cascade slope, or, for those who cannot yet do it via the slopes, the shuttle leaves again 15 minutes after the end of the lessons.
Is it really skiing?
Yes, we return directly behind the chalet via the Lanchettes trail (red) or via the waterfall passage (blue path).
Access to the Lanchettes departure point is 50 meters away, just behind the residence (you must have purchased your pass beforehand).

Is the resort pleasant?
Pleasant? No, she's fantastic!
After visiting many resorts in the Alps, we decided to return to Valmorel regularly, and for a long time. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, the clientele is international, and there's plenty of fun to be had.
However, for those who really want to party, it's better to go to Val d'Isère...
In terms of slopes, the area is more than enough to have fun and you can't explore it all in a week.
As snowboarders, what we particularly appreciate is that the area is under-developed: there's plenty of space between the pistes for safe off-piste skiing. Full speed ahead in the powder.
